Bir Amerikalı işverenin Work & Travel
değerlendirmesi...

Hello,
I am June Sabayrac, owner of the Travelodge of Lake George, motel consisting of
100 rooms, and beautiful view in a tourist destination setting. We have utilized
student employees from different European countries within the past five years.
However, several years ago I had four Turkish students who came to us for
employment and became very dear to us and remain so years later. We became as a
family - just countries apart. (One of these guys is Akin Utlu)
I think the J-1 travel experience is very beneficial to everyone involved within
the program, as it gives the employers opportunity to learn the culture of
various countries and thereby actually making the world seem smaller as
knowledge is shared and becomes more commonplace. Fear is fostered from the
unknown - with those shared ideas, thoughts and cultures we are allowing each of
us to become more caring and thoughtful of our fellow man, therefore removing
many stigmas that have existed in the past between nations or nationalities.
The student is the real beneficiary of this experience. One learns to be solely
responsible for self economically as well as adjusting in many different & new
situations regarding food, shelter, health and work environment. There are
certain freedoms & choices made which place you in environments or new culture
to learn other than the one you are now accustomed to. One will learn to be a
team member, work in various positions and interface with students from many
countries. The attitude and work ethics you arrive with can either benefit you
long term or work against you. Friends are made from country to country and
normally a second return to the USA is desired to see friends again, to travel
and to do what you missed out on the first year. A repeat student is more
valuable to an employer because they need less guidance and can help train
others. You will learn about yourself!!
Employers expect a day's work for a day's pay as a busy season demands many
responsibilities and a heavy work load for them. Employers provide a contract
for a specific duty, yet train with hope the student will accept more
responsibility and different job assignments. A smile and cheerful attitude,
arriving at work on time every day and asking "what else can I help you with"
question will allow you every opportunity to better your employment situation.
Come to the USA with a cheerful attitude, have a good time while you make money
and mature in the world of business which will prepare you for your life ahead.
